Dogecoin features on Premier league team, Watford jersey

Dogecoin will now be featured on the English professional football team Watford F.C this season, according to the British sports outlet, The Athletic. All three Watford shirts will feature the Dogecoin logo.

Watford FC plays in the Premier League, which is also called the English Premier League or the EPL, the first tier of English football.

The appearance of the Dogecoin is paid for by Stake.com, which is a crypto casino and sports betting site. Watford FC had earlier announced in July a multi-year partnership with Stake.com.

According to The Athletic, “Watford’s shirt sleeve sponsor for the 2021-22 season will be cryptocurrency dogecoin.” The Athletic publication also revealed that Watford’s previous sleeve partnership with Bitcoin fetched it around £700,000 ($970,500).

As of yesterday, a daily trading volume of $5.6 billion was recorded on the FTX  with the meme coin trading at $0.301629 and up 3.69% for the day. The seventh most valuable crypto has a market value of $39 billion.

Watford Football Club players were seen with the shirts with the logo for the meme cryptocurrency dogecoin on their left sleeves during the Premier League match played on Saturday.

Dogecoin has never been part of a high-profile sports event in Britain. In the effort to make Dogecoin noticeable in sporting events, Dogecoin holders in 2014 combined their efforts on Reddit to sponsor NASCAR driver Josh Wise and the Jamaican bobsled team in the Winter Olympics.

Before its deal with Stake, Watford FC had earlier partnered with Sportsbet.io in 2019. Part of the deal included the players wearing the Sportsbet.io brand on the front of Watford jersey and the image representing bitcoin on their sleeves for 2019/2020 Premier League season.
