EbonylIfe Studios and Will Packer have both secured an adaptation right to produce a movie on Ramon Abbas also known as Hushpuppi.
The production houses secured the right to do a movie on the International fraudster, based on a Bloomberg story, “The Fall of the Billionaire Gucci Master.”
The report coming from The Hollywood Reporters says an untitled action thriller movie project has been set up at Universal Pictures, following the collection of the adaptation rights for the movie.
The movie will be focused on a Bloomberg story written by Evan Ratiff detailing how Hushpuppi operated an internet scam and how he was eventually apprehended by International police.
Sharing the news on her Instagram page, Ebonylife boss, Mo Abudu says she pitched the story idea to Will Packer and James Lopez in 2020.
“When the Hushpuppi story made headlines last year, I pitched the story idea to @willpowerpacker and James Lopez. They bought the idea and as headlined in this press release, together we won the rights to the Bloomberg article by Evan Ratliff mentioned above. The rights were won after a highly contested derby by several producers and are now set up at Universal Pictures,” She wrote.
Will Packer in his reacting statement said: “Ten months ago Mo pitched us a rich and entertaining concept steeped in Nigerian culture that can only be told with the help of her unique perspective. Together we knew Evan’s work was the definitive telling and the perfect anchor of this saga,”
Will Packer Productions is behind the production of popular movies like Girls Trip and Night School.
Hushpuppi who is known for his luxury life was arrested in June 2020 alongside 11 of his associates by Dubai police.
He has since been detained for investigations part of which involves money laundering, scamming, cyber fraud, and hacking.
