Netflix vs Amazon Prime – Best streaming service

Streaming services are quickly taking over from cable television as more people are gravitating towards streaming services such as Amazon Prime and Netflix, the two most popular streaming services in the US.

This is not to say that Americans no longer watch cable tv just as a report by Nielsen  64% of time spent on tv was on network and cable TV, while 26% was spent on streaming services. In 2020, the pandemic year, a record high 7 million Americans reportedly dropped their traditional pay-TV service.

Deciding on which service to go for between Netflix and Amazon Prime isn’t always an easy decision. Amazon Prime for example doesn’t just give you access to their movies and tv shows, but there are some additional offers including, access to download new books, $10 credits on video games pre-orders, and a lot more.

This has made customers be in a dilemma when it comes to choosing the best streaming service.  However, if all you care about is movies and Television shows, you can look at these two steaming services closely and make your decision.

Moreover, both services do not have the same content, so you might just decide to get the two. You will only have difficulty if only you are planning on using just one.

That is why in this article, both Amazon Prime and Netflix have been described in detail for you to make an easy decision.

Amazon Prime vs Netflix: Video quality

Netflix provides their customer with three media quality options. Netflix provides you with three subscription tire and each comes with a different resolution:

  • Basic — HD (480p max)
  • Standard — Full HD (1080p max)
  • Premium — Ultra HD (4K max)

You can see clearly that the video quality you get will be based on which subscription you choose. With Netflix, only certain content ave the 4k resolution option. It is not so with Amazon Prime, because with a year subscription plan, you can watch any content at the highest quality possible.

Both let you stream with HDR support and Dolby Atmos sound quality, provided that these features are supported by your home theater setup. To enjoy these features on Netflix, you will need to have a Premium tier subscription.

Netflix vs Amazon Prime Video: Device

Both streaming services give you the option to connect to a wide range of devices in as much as they are connected to the internet and have a display feature.

Amazon Prime supports devices such as web browsers either on a PC or Mac, Roku, Apple TV, smart TVs, Amazon Fire TV and Fire devices (both owned by Amazon), iOS, Android, Xbox One and Series X, Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and later, Nintendo Wii U, connected Blu-ray players, and Chromecast and Chromecast Ultra.

Netflix vs Amazon Prime Video: Content

Content always matters, and it is why they are both in the business. Both services have some amazing content on their list. Netflix Original’s for instance has interesting content including  Beasts of No Nation, Roma, Stranger Things, Daredevil, Alive, 13th, Underground, A California Christmas. Netflix changes its content often but it stays long enough for people to watch them.

Amazon Prime gives you Die Hard, Everybody’s Talking About Jamie, Annette, Catch Me If You Can.

Just like its competitor, Prime Video lets its users stream their favorite content using their smartphone app, a web browser, or a Chromecast.

Amazon Prime has much larger movie collections and TV shows than Netflix, which are more than 12,000 movies, superseding both Netflix and Hulu. However, quality always wins over quantity and that’s why some of Netflix’s Original movies including The Two Popes, Marriage Story, and The Irishman, were nominated for Oscar in 2020.

Netflix always ensures that it updates its catalog with relatively new movies, including exclusive indie films, unlike Amazon whose movies tend to be older, like Inception, Clue, and The Cabin in the Woods, and among the good.

You can use the smartwatch for various purposes. For example, it can help you monitor your health, track your efforts during exercise, make and receive calls, use as a timer and for fashion.
According to Mordor Intelligence it is expected that the smartwatch market will grow at a CAGR of 14.5% over the forecast period between 2021 and 2026. If you want to get one for yourself, you can ask your favorite gadget dealer how to buy it.

2. Fitness trackers

The next wearable technology is fitness trackers. Since it is configured for exercise, fitness trackers can help you monitor your heart rate, measure the number of calories burned, calculate steps take, let you know if you have had enough rest, accompany you in swimming, and some other fitness metrics. A good fitness tracker will help you track your fitness progress and guide you on how you should push yourself further.

Smartwatches and fitness trackers are becoming similar in operations as both wearables now share functions such as phone notification alerts, fitness tracking options, etc. You can always make a clear distinction by knowing that fitness trackers are designed to help keep track of your exercise while smartwatches give you notifications on your wrist.

5. Smart glasses

Smart glasses are another type of wearable technology and have really been of help especially in the health sector. Smart glasses display data from a background information system on a computer screen/display placed in front of the eyes. Displays can be projected on glasses’ lenses or brought directly to the eyes. The most important thing is that smart glasses do not distract the user from the environment.
Smart glasses are also often referred to as “augmented reality”, which is basically a way of enhancing (and strengthening) the real world by adding information from an information system.
