Published

on

Wearable technology otherwise known as wearables is a term that is gaining attention among tech lovers these days. You might have heard someone mention wearable technology but you’re not quite sure what it means. Simply put, wearable technology is a term used to refer generally to devices such as smartwatches, fitness trackers, smart glasses, etc. which can be worn all through the day.

While the Apple smartwatch seems to be very well-known among the wearables, there are yet other ones that have been introduced into the tech market such as wearable clothing, jewelry, etc. The idea behind wearable is not totally new, take for instance your normal wristwatch, clothes, or jewelry can all be called wearable, except that in the case of wearable technology, there have been some additional technological innovations to them. With the latest innovation, you can connect the wearables to some kind of existing devices such as smartphones and computers.

Now let’s look at some of these devices and see how they are being used.

1. Smartwatches

Smartwatches occupy the number one spot on the list of most commonly used wearables, and by 2025, it is expected to reach shipments of more than a quarter of a billion units.

Although smartwatches can function on their own, they are paired most times with smartphones and you can receive notifications. With a connected smartphone, you can also play music stores on the smartphone.

You can use the smartwatch for various purposes. For example, it can help you monitor your health, track your efforts during exercise, make and receive calls, use as a timer and for fashion.
According to Mordor Intelligence it is expected that the smartwatch market will grow at a CAGR of 14.5% over the forecast period between 2021 and 2026. If you want to get one for yourself, you can ask your favorite gadget dealer how to buy it.

2. Fitness trackers

The next wearable technology is fitness trackers. Since it is configured for exercise, fitness trackers can help you monitor your heart rate, measure the number of calories burned, calculate steps take, let you know if you have had enough rest, accompany you in swimming, and some other fitness metrics. A good fitness tracker will help you track your fitness progress and guide you on how you should push yourself further.

Smartwatches and fitness trackers are becoming similar in operations as both wearables now share functions such as phone notification alerts, fitness tracking options, etc. You can always make a clear distinction by knowing that fitness trackers are designed to help keep track of your exercise while smartwatches give you notifications on your wrist.

3. Smart clothes

Smart clothes are clothing materials that are different from traditional clothes because they have been enhanced with technology for additional functions. Smart clothes are also referred to as high-tech clothes, they are designed so that they can communicate with connected devices such as smartphones and the wearer’s body. Examples of smart clothes are smart socks, smart shoes, smart work cloth, smart sleepwear, smart casual wear, etc.

4. Gaming wearables

Gaming wearables is very popular among gamers and there has been constant innovation in the gaming industry. The common wearable technology in the gaming industry is Virtual Reality (VR) headsets. A typical example of VR headsets is Oculus Rift which makes gamers feel immersed in other worldly experiences, and the same goes for PlayStation VR.

5. Smart glasses

Smart glasses are another type of wearable technology and have really been of help especially in the health sector. Smart glasses display data from a background information system on a computer screen/display placed in front of the eyes. Displays can be projected on glasses’ lenses or brought directly to the eyes. The most important thing is that smart glasses do not distract the user from the environment.
Smart glasses are also often referred to as “augmented reality”, which is basically a way of enhancing (and strengthening) the real world by adding information from an information system.

Final thoughts

Wearable technology though has been around for a couple of years now, but there are still many untapped aspects. In the coming years, people should expect more amazing wearables and also expect to see improvement on the current ones in the market as the tech industry will continue to improve on their innovations.

Now let’s look at some reviews of the latest Samsung foldable phone.

Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3 price

The Galaxy Z Fold 3 price is less expensive compared to when Galaxy Z Fold 2 was launched but foldable phones are still more expensive than normal high-end smartphones like Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra or iPhone 12 Pro Max.
The price for Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3 starts at $1,799 (£1,599), meanwhile, the price in Nigeria is about N750,000 for a model with 256GB of storage, and for a higher capacity, you can get a 512GB Z Fold 3 for $1,899 (£1,699 ), and the price in Nigeria is N780,000.
For those in the US, Samsung is offering a deal of up to $800 off if bring in an older device, which could be your phone, tablet or wearable device, or any combination of the three, you can also add up to four devices if you want to get the maximum value. This deal will let you get the latest Galaxy fold for just $999.

Samsung in the UK offering up to £250 if you can turn in your phone, and when you pre-order, you will get a Fold Starter Kit which comprises a charger, a case for your Z Fold 3, and an S Pen stylus.

Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3 Battery life and charging

The Z Fold 3’s battery life is not impressive. The dual 4,400-mAh batteries are actually smaller compared to the ones in the Fold 2 which is 4,500mAh. The 4,400mAh battery supports fast charging at 25W and also supports up to 10W wireless charging. Considering the fact that the phone works with the combination of 5G connectivity and two screens that run at 120Hz, better battery life should have been used. As it is, the battery life barely makes it through the day.
Another thing you should know is that there’s no charger in the Galaxy Z Fold 3’s box package, so to charge it, it’s either you use your existing charger or buy another one. This is something similar we saw with Apple when it released its iPhone 12 series.

Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3 Displays

The Galaxy Z Fold 3 has two displays features: a 6.2-inch OLED cover display and a 7.6-inch main (internal) screen that is shown once you unfold the device.

The front display has scratch-resistant glass (Corning Gorilla Glass Victus).
The screen-to-body ratio is 88.57 %.

Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3 Specifications

The Galaxy Z Fold 3 runs on the Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 chipset with 12GB of RAM. It’s available in two configurations: 256GB and 512GB of storage both with 12GB RAM. It has no microSD card slot for more storage expansion. There is a fingerprint sensor mounted on the home button.
Cameras
The rear camera setup includes a trio of:

  • 12-megapixel f/1.8 primary sensor with Dual Pixel autofocus and optical image stabilization. 12-megapixel f/2.2 ultra-wide camera
  • 12-megapixel 2x f/2.4 telephoto camera.

Another set of cameras are the 10-megapixel camera on the cover display and the under-display camera which is only 4 megapixels.

How to know the difference between Airpods 1 and Airpods 2

Published

on

Apple AirPods are among the best wireless earbuds in the world. Apple first launched their earbuds in 2016 and the second generation came three years later in 2019 when they launched Airpods 2 and Airpods Pro.

We shall be answering the question “what are the differences between Airpods 1 and Airpods 2?” and how you can easily identify the two Airpods in this article.

When we consider the colour and style of the two Airpods there are not so many differences between the two on the outside. They also both fit the same as they rest in the ear but there are still some updates that may want you to prefer the second-gen Airpods to the original AirPods. Airpods 2 for instance lets you summon Siri by simply using your voice unlike in Airpods 1 where you will need to first tap it.  This new feature lets you adjust your device volume and even make phone calls without having to touch your iPhone.

In terms of music sound, the Airpods 2 sounds similar to the original one and also has a sensor that knows when the Airpods is in your hear.

Now, let’s breakdown these differences step-by-step

Identify the difference between Aipods 1 and Airpods 2 by design

If perhaps your reason for wanting to get Airpods w2 is because of the design only, I’m sorry to say this but there is no difference between their designs as they both look alike and there are no additional designs to spice things up.

Processor

Airpods 1 uses W1 chip, while Airpods 2 uses H1 chipset. With the H1 processor, there is a more stable faster wireless connection between the buds and other devices and also connect calls close to 2 times faster than the previous W1 chipset.

Battery life

In their battery life comparison, there is an upgrade to the AirPods 2 battery life as users have 50% longer call times. Another fascinating thing about the upgrade is that Airpods 2 case now has over 24 hours of battery life which should last you for at least a week and even more. Airpods 2 also came with three hours of listening time up from 2 hours of Airpods 1.

Wireless charging case

Perhaps the most impressive thing about the Airpods 2 is their wireless charging case, and there is good news for you if you are an Airpods 1 user because you don’t need to buy a new charging case before you can join the wireless charging trend.

The difference in LED locations

Airpods 1 has its charge indicator located inside the charging case whereas, for Airpods 2, the LED charge indicator is located in front of the charging case.

Price

When the Airpods 1 was released in 2016, the came with a price tag of $159. With the Airpods 2 now in the market, buyers have multiple options to choose from including first-generation users who want to upgrade to the wireless case.

  • AirPods 2 with wireless charging case ($199)
  • Airpods 2 with charging case ($159)
  • Wireless charging case ($79)
